The Amazon lowlands are home to a large variety of animals and plants. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ, has identified Ecuador as the country with the highest biodiversity in the world.
One of the most significant advantages of Ecuador’s Amazon lowlands is its high accessibility. It is straightforward to get there from big cities. For example from Quito, it takes less than 4 hours to arrive with the bus at the lowlands. If you want to travel to remote regions such as Coca and the Yasuní national park, daily flights with the national Ecuadorian airline TAME will take you there.
Even the famous explorer Alexander von Humboldt took more than a year to explore the region. Many of his findings and observations stemmed from his time in the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon rainforest in Ecuador deeply inspired him.
The weather in Ecuador is generally warm throughout the year. Below is a weather and climate table for Coca, a cosy small town in Ecuador which is a starting point for most Amazon tours.
