Mobile phones have become undeniably irreplaceable in our lives today. Some may even say that it is an ‘addiction’. Fortunately, you do not have to give it up even while you are in Ecuador. Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi services, and local prepaid sim cards can also be purchased there. Prepaid cards are a great option if you want to have internet connection on the move. There are many data packages to choose from, and you can easily find one that suits your needs.

The prepaid sim cards work well in populated areas on the Galapagos Islands. However, there may be weak or even no phone signal on cruises and remote islands.

Mail and Post

If you would like to send a postcard/letter home which arrives before you return from your trip, you should send it as soon as you can. It takes at least 10 days for letters to reach from Ecuador to Europe and around 1 week by airmail. Choosing airmail is an excellent option if you want your items to arrive as early as possible.

While you can send your letter/post through any post office in Ecuador, we suggest using the ones in bigger cities.  If you need to send something important, you should use international couriers such as DHL, UPS or Servientrega Internacional.
